We know that when you need storage, you usually need it now. You don’t want to spend your afternoon in an office filling out paperwork or waiting for a manager to show up. At Los Hermanos Storage, we’ve streamlined our process to be as fast as your favorite delivery app. Here is how our “Instant Access” system works and what you need to know about locking up your storage unit on day one.

The “Green Lock” System
When you arrive at your new unit, you’ll notice a Green Lock already on the door. This lock is there to ensure your unit stays clean and secure until the moment you arrive.
- How it works: Once you access your unit, you must remove and return the Green Lock to our designated drop-box at the front of the facility, just to the left of the office. Your unit will have a welcome package that includes a bag to place the Green Lock in before placing it in the Lock Drop Box.
- Your Personal Lock: Because you are the only person with a key or code to your belongings, you will need to replace the Green Lock with a high-quality lock of your own within 48 hours.
Storage Industry-Recommended Locks
Not all locks are created equal. Since Los Hermanos features drive-up access and ultra-secure block construction, you want a lock that matches that level of protection. Here are the top professional recommendations:
The Gold Standard: Disc Locks (Round Locks)
These are specifically designed for self-storage. Their circular shape leaves almost no “shackle” exposed, making them virtually immune to bolt cutters.
- Top Pick: The ABUS 24/70 Diskus is widely considered the best for storage units ($27–$54).
- Budget Value: The Master Lock Magnum M50XD offers a boron-carbide shackle that is 50% harder than hardened steel for around $17–$20.
The Heavy Hitter: Shrouded Padlocks.
These locks have a “shroud” or sleeve that covers the bar, protecting it from prying and sawing.
- Pro Pick: The ABUS 37/80 Granit is the ultimate choice for high-value items, featuring maximum corrosion resistance and drill protection ($130)./li>
What to Avoid
For your own security, we strongly recommend avoiding standard padlocks or combination locks. Standard padlocks have long, exposed bars that a pair of bolt cutters can snap in seconds. Combination locks are often less weather-resistant and can be easier for thieves to “pick” or bypass.
